Ghin Ghin Road Bridge
The ageing single-lane bridge was replaced with a new two-lane structure with an unlimited load-carrying capacity and a lifespan of over 100 years. It was replaced in only three weeks by Civil Bridge + Wharf. Normally, construction of a bridge of this type would require a four to five month closure, however Council engineers worked with Civil Bridge and Wharf to design an integral Concrete Bridge, a method of bridge construction more commonly used in North America and Europe.
This innovative construction technique has resulted in the quick erection time by allowing most components to be built off-site.A four span integral bridge structure of 74m total length constructed from precast façade panel pier and abutment components, prestressed T-beam deck stringer beams, and a cast in place deck slab to make the complete structure monolithic for resistance to potential overtopping flood flows.
The replacement bridge was opened to public traffic within three weeks of a total closure subsequent to piling carried out under traffic control.
